The Newhaven Historical Society was founded on April 26th 1969 and shortly after acquired use of the old Pilot’s store near the Hope Inn for a museum, This was soon outgrown and the Museum moved to a prefab. building under the cliffs. This too was outgrown and Messrs Tates kindly offered us a home at Paradise Park. To celebrate our 40th Anniversary, on June 16th 2009, the Lord Lieutenant of Sussex unveiled a showcase containing items loaned by Parker Pens, recalling their activity in the town.
The Society meets at the Hillcrest Centre, Hillcrest Rd on the first Tuesday of February (AGM), April, June, August , October and December at 7.30pm. The meeting, normally a guest speaker and or slide show, lasts around 2 hours. These meetings are available to non members or guests for a nominal charge.
Full membership costs £6 pa and also offers unlimited access to both Newhaven Local & Maritime Museum and the Seaford Museum at the Martello Tower, or £11 to include 4 copies of our quarterly publication “Newhaven Times” posted to your home
